A Dark alternative electronic musician, UK citizen MATT HART released status code, which will go up to #1 in 2022. After a debut single released this year, his sophomore album is set to include new songs, below the earth.pt.1 (15/03/2022).
With an insistent rhythm composed by electronic beats, this artist’s album is a crushing and relentless, pounding affair.
Where it is not unusual for an industrial / electronic / black wave track to play on a weekday, it is best to refrain from hitting “play.” To take maximum effort, continue with the recommendations listed in this excerpt.
MATT HART is an industrial artist – both musician and DJ, from London, UK. Conceiving the
idea to write electronic/industrial music under his own name in and around 2005 and DJing
since 2013 – having appearances, residency and guest slots at prominent UK & worldwide
clubs and events as a band and/or DJ. He has been going strong since then in both
endeavours, with additional experience from playing guitar and bass with London industrialists,
Concrete Lung, and DJing at seminal London alternative club, Slimelight. Taking to live
streaming with the onset of lockdown in 04/2020, has kept his creative flare heavy and hard
and he continues to release music and DJ during these unprecedented times for artists.
After some insightful conversations with a friend and well-respected scene artist, MATT
realised it was time to push forward and released a back catalogue of thirteen tracks called
the ANTHOLOGY OF CORROSION in January 2017. With renewed vigour for creation, he
then put out a two-track single JUDGE & PUNISH in March of the same year. Then later in
2017, he released his first ‘proper’ EP, CHAOS RISING and it received notable reviews by
scene magazines….
“…the EP is shaping to be a step up from his previous efforts.”~ Brutal Resonance
18/07/2017
“It’s not perfect – at points it is in awe of the influences rather than being inspired by them –
but this is a solid start, and I can only hope MATT will follow this up with more material in
the future.” ~ amodelofcontrol 20/08/2017
“MATT HART moves his production and song writing abilities forward on his third release
that wears its influences on its sleeve” ~ ReGen Magazine 07/10/2017
More material followed in January 2018 with TRANSITION01 and CHAOS RISING 2 on the
14th March. With creativity flowing there were further releases on August 9th with, MERCURY
FLOW and b-side, BETTER WORLD (remastered). Then, CHAOS RISING 3 was released on
30th November 2018. This pivotal year also brought CHAOS RISING to the stage with live
guitarist, Jerome Badoux of Drilling Spree. With HART’s first live performance already under
his belt on 24/08/2017 in Toronto, CA, opportunity arrived for the debut show in his home town
of London, UK and on March 24th along with his guitarist, he supported Mortalitech at Zigfred
Von Underbelly.
This kicked off a slew of live gigs, supporting the scene greats like: [:SITD:], Sulpher, Grendel,
God Module, ESA: Electronic Substance Abuse, Agonize, Rotersand and Das Ich to name but
a few. Feedback from these seminal bands, the promoters and audience alike, had him
receiving lots of good words towards his live show and so with vigour Matt decided to continue
to evolve the music for the stage and hone his performance skills, for himself and his audience.
The journey, which was the CHAOS RISING trilogy, was produced, mixed and mastered by
MATT himself and the artwork, was created by the talented Vlad McNeally of kallistidesign.
Moving forward and wanting to strive for greater excellence, MATT employed the expertise
and technical services of Adi Calef of DNA Studios, London for all mixing and mastering, and
in November 2019 the full-length TERRA 3808 album was released. Some reviews received
include:
“It’s a truly massive track (SUPERFICIAL), harking back to the roots of industrial metal with
it’s pounding and relentless energy but taking it in a fresh direction with it’s subtle layers and
instrumentation.” ~ altvenger 02/08/2019
“An industrial record (TERRA 3808) in it’s finest form, framing a narrative of a dystopian
future, war and a bleak reality.” ~ altvenger 28/10/2019
“Sonically speaking, TERRA 3808 is a dream for industrial metal fans. TERRA 3808, a wellrounded offering from the London industrialist MATT HART. Something tells me that Mr.
HART will be one to watch for 2020 and beyond.” ~ Crypt Teaze 26/11/2019
“The backdrop and the theme are familiar for sure but the music itself and the way MATT
has gone about writing these pieces strikes a whole new depth entirely. MATT HART has
outdone himself with an album that, whilst can be described as pure in its approach to
industrial music, can also be seen as an experimental amalgamation of all forms…” ~
ElektroVox 26/11/2019
With 2019 rounded off on such a high note, it brought vision that 2020, was to be a year to
further build on the momentum of live performance; instead, it was a year of change,
adaptation and reimagining. With the onset of the global pandemic, and the events/arts
industry in turmoil MATT heavily focused on his roots as a DJ and created OUTLAW VISION,
a weekly live stream DJ show on Twitch. This not only allowed him to showcase his own
music, but also that of other bands from the industrial/ebm/dark electro scene and similar
artists to himself, such as: 3TEETH, Ministry and Rammstein etc. In amongst this, his writing
of music did not subside and 5 releases during 2020 were produced: TRIOLITH, ISOLNATION,
TERRORFYING, JUST A REMIX and DARK FIRE (01-2021), and with the popularity of the
Twitch platform, all tracks received global attention and appeared on countless DJ sets and
playlists around the world. Additionally, the TRIOLITH release included remix versions of
tracks from the CHAOS RISING era by: Xavier Swafford (3TEETH), NitroNoise, Witch of the
Vale, MXD_BLD, metalogue and well-known witch-house artist monomorte and was shortly
followed up by a remix of TRIOLITH by ESA: Electronic Substance Abuse.
Kick-starting January 2021 with an epic remix of the original track TERRORFYING (released
30/10/2020) by the mighty Moaan Exis, an eagerly anticipated remix album on physical CD
released on July 19th, 2021. Containing previous digital release only remixes, new unreleased
remixes (Simon Carter and Antibody) along with an unreleased track Killoreality (spankthenun
remix). Alongside this physical release, a digital TALES OF TERRA RETOLD EP, of the before
mentioned unreleased tracks, will be added to streaming services and finally – a new album
of material will be coming in 03/2022, with the first single TO THE CORE in November.
“…a stunning compilation featuring some amazing remixers that show off all the facets of
MATT HART’s skills as one of today’s best EBM/Dark Elektro artists. There will always be
a place in my setlists for MATT HART tracks…” ~ DJ AsuraSunil, Darkest Before Dawn,
KOOP 91.7FM, Austin, TX, USA 20/06/2021
“Pure adrenaline filled dancefloor monsters that are worth turning past 10 and dealing with
the eviction notice later! After over a year of putting out original singles MATT HART rallied
the troops and assembled a team of producers to craft beastmode remixes! With remixes
varying from the twisted beats of Electronic Substance Abuse, the crunchy EBM remix by
Spankthenun to the polished smooth overtones of Witch of the Vale, this remix album is 12
tracks that will only leave you with one complaint, which track to spin in your set first!” ~ DJ
Scott Durand / Dark Indulgence Industrial EBM Dark Techno Mixshow, USA 21/06/2021
“You’ve come to the right place for stomping unique electronic sound that keeps you
moving.” ~ DJ Dark-Wanderer [Insert-Scary-Name-Here], Germany 21/06/2021
“You can count on massive material – hard beats, precise sound – the album is full of really
cruel dancefloor killer remix!!!” ~ József Németh, Kollektiva, Hungary 22/06/2021
“…remixes on this compilation by some of the most incredible artists on the scene, this
album is like carrying around the nuclear ‘football’ – only in CD form.” ~ ElektroVox
22/07/2021
As 2021 neared an end, the eagerly anticipated first single, TO THE CORE (from the
sophomore album BELOW THE TERRA PT.1) released on 15/11/2021, and DJs around the
world geared up to spin it in mixes and fill the dance floor, while press was making waves with
3
mentions, reviews and announcements. This time also presented the first opportunity to be
back on a stage with a live performance in London, UK at Nambucca club. Getting back to the
stage is full-force ahead objective, and MATT has several prominent gigs lined-up throughout
the spring 2022, notably: ElektroVox Festival (09/04/22 London, UK), Resistanz Festival
(15/04/22 Sheffield, UK) and iVardensphere (01/06/22 London, UK). This new year looks to
be an exciting time, having started it off with TO THE CORE also being voted #1 on the TOP
50 tracks of 2021 from the premier dark Twitch streamer InsertScaryNameHere on their show
01/01/2022. Opening up 2022 with the second single DECIMATE (17/01/2022), a great
precursor to the full album coming in March, the enthusiasm continues and the world is ready.
“TO THE CORE continues thematically with the dystopian society of 3808, detailing
humanity’s desperation against the mechanical oppressors as the survivors, the outlaw
crew, are forced below ground. Combining aggressive, menacing beats with vocals that
alternate between cold, mechanical effects and harsh screams, MATT HART has created
yet another brutal, yet danceable track that leaves the listener wanting more from the
upcoming BELOW THE TERRA album.” ~ Bootstomp Dark Electro Body Industrial Techno
Show, USA 08/10/2021
“MATT HART returns with a powerful new track. Can’t wait to spin TO THE CORE at a club
sometime soon, as this is bound to get the dancefloor moving.” ~ DJ Hive (Antichrist /
Vampire Party), London (UK) / Antwerp (Belgium) Europe 10/10/2021
“TO THE CORE is a hypnotic, aggressive yet addictive industrial symphony that will
command you to the dance floor. Perfect definition of the kind of dark & gritty beats I love
to play on my ISOLATION Wed night sets. Bravo MATT HART!” ~ DJ Slave1, Isolation,
Denver CO USA 12/10/2021
“DECIMATE – great track!! 🔥🔥🔥 hard and ominous industrial.” ~ DJ FLESH BOT, USA
09/01/2022
“A menacing start, that suddenly knocks the breath out of you and the voices of the
mechanical overlords can be heard reporting control. There is a wonderful layering of
textures, between the driving guitar, the stellar synths and the pounding rhythm.” ~ Adele
Sinnamon, Onxy Music Reviews, Australia 17/01/2022
“MATT HART cordially decimates your eardrums with his new single.” ~ Pierre Sopor,
VerdamMnis Dark Music Webzine, France 17/01/2022
“‘DECIMATE’ after the sophisticated start, it ruins you like a cruel beast! Ice cold and steel
hard: post-apocalyptic cyberpunk, deep-dark electro and severe industrial-metal sounds
created a killer essence.” ~ József Németh, Kollecktiva, Hungary 11/02/2022
BELOW THE TERRA PT. 1 (releasing 15/03/22) with the 2 earlier singles released, have built
a solid foundation for this sophomore album. These 9 tracks, conjure up some hope for the
outlaws – while realising the reality of the challenges which lie ahead. With some scene
heavyweights already offering review, this album will deliver some soundscape diversity for
fans, but linking in the much enjoyed crafted and honed industrial and electronic energy of
previous releases. Currently there are official videos for both singles TO THE CORE and
DECIMATE and another on the way. Delve into the world of 3808 and survive as an outlaw.
“The beginning of the BELOW THE TERRA experience begins with post-apocalyptic
imagery on the cd cover jacket …. Little did we know, what MATT HART had in store for us
…. Setting the stage for what was to be found inside. Upon playing the first track, the listener
is instantly transported into the wastes of a post-apocalyptic world, with dark tonal synths,
crunchy factory manufacturing like beats, and scales of sound that take us on a journey
through this dark, forgotten and abandoned world which is presented on the cover….
MATT HART paints us a musical picture of dire conditions, strict and unforgiving leadership
in times of scarce resources. Themes of power, strength and scientific darkness are
prevalent throughout the world …. And the emotional toll that can come from living in such
4
a harsh world. The vocal patterns on the tracks throughout range from harsh and
dominating, to soft and reassuring, taking the listener on a new journey as every track
begins to play. The conclusion of the album ends strong very danceable tracks like
“ABSOLUTE ZERO” (sure to be a future dance floor killer), along with “THE LAST RAVE”
which is an up-tempo adrenaline rush combined with mechanical samples, authoritarian
vocal styles, which end the album as in the same vein as it began. This masterpiece by
MATT HART is a must have album for people who appreciate dark electronic music, and
the album itself possesses the versatility to be played on a variety of applications and
dominate in each. The power house that is MATT HART was reflected in this album starting
from the very beginning of the experience, the art then being followed by the first track —
listening through then coming to the hard and fast end. I am excited for [Part 2] of BELOW
THE TERRA to follow along with the adventure that MATT HART has provided us, and to
finally come to know…. What lies Beneath The Terra!” ~ Christopher Deane, EBM
Worldwide Events, USA – 20/02/2022
“BELOW THE TERRA PT. 1 is an album that mercilessly smashes into your eardrums. With
a refined combination of influences of EBM, industrial, dark electro, some sprinkles of
dance-sounds, with heavy portions of dark beats, distorted guitars, vocoders and all other
imaginable electronics. MATT HART claims his rightful place in the hall of fame of harder
electro in the gothic and wave regions. He has a sound that hovers between the well-trodden
paths of many predecessors and a sound of his own that embraces various
genres. Countdown to the 15th of March when the album is released. Lace up your dancing
shoes and when the time comes: play it loud! THE LAST RAVE (song on this album): I
hope this album is just the start of a lot of fun on many dancefloors all over the world.” ~
Jürgen Braeckevelt, Peek-A-Boo Magazine, Belgium – 20/02/2022
“MATT HART’s BELOW THE TERRA PT.1…where it’s not uncommon to hit play on an
Industrial / EBM / Dark Electro track and get a slap: MATT ‘s effort to beam a soundtrack
back in time from 3808 leaves little safe space. Thoughtful preparation is required. I have
listed a few key suggestions to help enjoy the album, to sustain only mere flesh wounds.
1. Consider head and face protection. There are no mere playful slaps. Rather a sonic kick in the head, or
curb side “smiley” of aggression.
2. I strongly suggest the best fire retardant you find. Listen to me on this one folks – your face WILL melt.
3. Be mentally prepared to lose hard fought “gatekeeper” status. There is a strong possibility you may hear
something awesome that doesn’t fit a narrow view or defined Genre box. If unprepared this could
collapse an individual’s entire perception of music. Even worse infect other caretakers of priceless
antique Genre boxes.
Fun aside, BELOW THE TERRA PT.1 is a tale of parallel journeys. One a poignant
commentary on the future of humanity, and the other a journey covering a vast area of Dark
the Electronic landscape. Executed with power, passion, and melodic “musical” qualities,
often lacking in beat centric music.” ~ Sean Beesley, Live Evil Productions, Toronto, Canada
