Watch This Nine Year Old Join Gama Bomb on Stage and Absolutely Crush It on Drums

Have you ever watched a video of some super-talented kid and openly wondered “what the hell was I doing when I was nine years old?!” Because that’s exactly what crossed my mind when I watched Japanese drumming virtuoso named Kota absolutely slaying it on stage with the dudes in Gama Bomb.
The whole thing happened last weekend, as the Irish thrash metal band was playing two shows in Tokyo. Prior to heading over to Japan, they were made aware of the nine-year-old drumming prodigy when the kid posted a video of himself smashing through “Sea Savage” off the band’s 2020 album of the same name. Turns out they were so impressed with his drumming that they reached out through their friends at Chrosh Booking and Spiritual Beast Records to set up a chance for him to play with the band live.
As luck would have it, the diminutive drum machine was already going to the band’s first show with his dad on May 31, so the stage was set. The band added the song to their setlist and after running through it in soundcheck, it came time for the real thing and well… you can see how well that went in the clip below.
Following Kota’s performance in front of a live audience, Gama Bomb frontman Philly Byrne had nothing but praise for the youngster.
“We were blown away by how brave and talented Kota was – watch out for this kid, he’s gonna be a huge star some day!”
Man, that’s such a cool experience that neither Kota — nor Gama Bomb — will likely ever forget. It just goes to show that metal is universal and is powerful enough to transcend language barriers, age gaps, and any other divisions that may exist. Maybe next time the band roll around, they’ll get Kota up to rip through something off their latest album BATS, which is out now through Prosthetic Records.
