Trophy Eyes Had a Simple Message for Fan Upset About Moshing During Their Set — “F*ck You”

Maybe it’s just me, but I’d always assumed that when you attend a rock show of any kind, there’s always a chance that a mosh could break out or someone could come sailing over you as they crowd surf to the front. It’s a risk you take when you take your place on the floor. Yet for one concertgoer during a recent show in Atlanta, that concept was apparently foreign to them and they took to social media to bitch about it.
On April 23, Australian post-hardcore band Trophy Eyes were playing a show with pop-punk band Against The Current at The Masquerade as part of their ongoing tour. Now, right off the bat I know what you’re probably thinking: who thought pop-punk and post-hardcore would mix? That’s a good question, but one that remains unanswered.
Anyway, the show apparently went on without a hitch but one person in the crowd later complained online, calling out Trophy Eyes vocalist John Floreani for trying to get the crowd riled up enough to begin moshing or crowd surfing. Those requests, according to this attendee, was apparently too much.
Responding to the band’s recent announcement of an upcoming Australian tour, Instagram user chewyxbreakdown complained about their experience.
“First time I ever heard of you guys was the concert on Atlanta tonight and the lead singer kept encouraging mosh pits and crowd surfing, which made the majority of us, who were there for Against the Current, feel very unsafe and have to go to the sidelines, which is not fair because we were there before your crazy fans. I almost had a panic attack. I didn’t even get the chance to find out if I liked your songs because I had to keep worrying about getting kicked in the head.”
This kicked off a whole shitstorm of comments from fans ranging from “don’t go to shows if you can’t handle the heat” to “it’s a fucking punk show, maybe you should have gone to a Taylor Swift show instead you fucking dope.” It goes on and on.
Eventually, someone that manages Trophy Eyes’ Instagram page saw the comment and offered a short and sweet response to the whole thing:
“fuck you”
Pretty neat and to the point if you ask me.
Honestly, there comes a time in every metal or rock fan’s life when they realize they just can’t hang anymore. Maybe this person just hasn’t realized that they’re past their prime and should just shuffle over to the side and let the kids go off in the pit. It happened to me during a Megadeth show and I quickly saw myself out of the pit and over towards the side next the all the other old farts. Was it a sobering experience? You bet your ass, but I still managed to have a great time at the show.
That or attend shows like Ghost or Clutch or some other more subdued concert-going experience…
