The Cure to Announce Additional North American Shows Tomorrow — Mexico and South America Announced by Late April

Posted on 05/04/2023 By

The Cure’s frontman, Robert Smith, took to Twitter today to announce that there are still a few tickets left for their New Orleans concert and that additional North American shows will be revealed at 8 AM PST tomorrow. This news comes after the band’s highly anticipated “Shows of a Lost World” 2023 tour experienced rapid sell-outs, with Smith previously revealing plans to add three more concerts.

In a follow-up tweet, Smith also shared that details about shows in Mexico and seven of the twelve sovereign states of South America will be announced before the end of the month, expanding the “Shows of a Lost World” 2023 tour even further. The Cure’s fans in these regions can now look forward to experiencing the band’s iconic music live.

As excitement builds for the additional North American shows, it is currently unclear how the ticket-purchasing process will be handled for both Verified Fans and those who are not. The Cure had previously placed faith in Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan status as a means of deterring scalpers and keeping ticket prices at a reasonable level.

This comes days after Smith revealed the cancellation of roughly 7,000 tickets for their North American tour, owing to purchases through fraudulent accounts or listings on secondary marketplaces. A day earlier, Smith had exposed the underhanded tactics employed by scalpers to bypass the band’s digital transfer limitations, which involved reselling entire Ticketmaster accounts, complete with tickets.

Despite their best efforts, The Cure also encountered roadblocks in the form of state laws in New York, Illinois, and Colorado, which prevent artists from imposing restrictions on ticket resale, making it difficult for The Cure to maintain fair pricing for their fans. (Smith has encouraged fans to utilize face value exchanges like twickets.live for ticket transactions.)

Smith clarified that all tickets obtained this way would be canceled, and the original fees would not be refunded. In an act of goodwill, he determined that these fees would be donated to Amnesty International while the canceled tickets would be resold to genuine fans.

We currently await further information how the band will continue to combat ticket scalping and maintain fair pricing while ensuring that genuine fans have access to these new concert dates.
