PJ Harvey has announced her highly anticipated 10th studio album, ‘I Inside the Old Year Dying,’ set for release on July 7th, 2023, via Partisan Records. The album serves as a follow-up to 2016’s ‘The Hope Six Demolition Project’ and is described by Harvey as “a resting space, a solace, a comfort, a balm—which feels timely for the times we’re in.”
The album was recorded with longtime collaborators and producers Flood and John Parish. Inspired by Harvey’s epic poem ‘Orlam,’ it features improvisations with the two producers. Harvey shares, “I think the album is about searching, looking—the intensity of first love, and seeking meaning. Not that there has to be a message, but the feeling I get from the record is one of love—it’s tinged with sadness and loss, but it’s loving. I think that’s what makes it feel so welcoming: so open.”
The first single from the album, “A Child’s Question, August,” is accompanied by a music video directed by Steve Gullick.

The videos showcased Harvey’s seamless collaboration with Parish and Flood, with whom she has worked for nearly 30 years. In honor of their enduring creative alliance, Harvey assembled a special Spotify playlist featuring tracks from her impressive catalog, produced in collaboration with Parish and Flood.
Harvey conveyed her sincere appreciation for her collaborators in her newsletter, writing, “This is a celebration of their masterful work with me. I am so grateful. Thank you, John. Thank you, Flood. I love you both.”
The album’s announcement follows a series of hints dropped by Harvey over the past year. In February 2022, she posted photos of herself in the studio, sparking speculation about new music on the horizon. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Harvey confirmed that she had been working on her tenth studio album and was “very pleased with it,” hinting at a potential 2023 release.
Fans can also look forward to the reissues of Harvey’s discography, including B-Sides, Demos & Rarities. Last summer, she shared a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Who by Fire,” featured in Sharon Horgan’s Bad Sisters series.
