Despite Video Proof, Orgy Frontman Says His Linkin Park Comments Were “Out Of Context”

Ah, you gotta love it. Someone says something out of pocket or something they shouldn’t have, it gets reported in the media, and rather than accept that you fucked up or that it happened at all, they go and blame it all on someone else. Such is the case of yesterday’s news that Orgy frontman Jay Gordon potentially revealed that Linkin Park would be coming back with a female singer to fill in for the late Chester Bennington.
As we reported yesterday, Gordon was in an interview with Mike Z’s Wired In The Empire for KCAL 96.7 when he let the potential reunion bombshell fall from his lips. Here’s exactly what he said:
“Very, very cool guys and obviously a great band. They’ve been around a long time and they’re still going for it. It’s going to be tough without Chester [Bennington], but we’ll see. I hear they got a girl singer now. That’s what I heard.”
He then followed up that statement a little later, perhaps realizing that he fucked up, by dropping the ol’ “don’t quote me.”
Now, in a post on his Facebook page Gordon is recanting his statement further. In that post, originally reported by Loudwire, Gordon said he didn’t actually know anything about what was going on in Linkin Park’s camp. He went on to say that he didn’t actually say what everyone reported on and that the interviewer Mike Z was fucking around to get internet clout.
“With regards to this linkin park singer thing. I know nothing about any of that. People sure do love to take my words out of context. I love those guys and wish them the best. Wow I was like what in the actual f**k ? I said nothing about knowing any of that and never brought it up. I love Chester and there will never be another him ever. Strange that that dude said something to me about it not the other way around. get real dude. Not cool!”
He then later in a comment said even more about the situation, saying his words were taken out of context:
“I wish them nothing but the best since such a terrible & tragic loss. He was a friend. Such a legendary guy in so many ways. Still bummed about it. These are my own words. Not some bs hype story to get people to engage. I would never speak on another band’s behalf. They communicate just fine on their own. If something like that happens I would hope THEY would be the ones to drop the news. I sure as hell wouldn’t do that to them or anyone. Click conjuring has never been my strong suit so don’t take my words outta context ever again bro.”
That sort of defense only works if there wasn’t video footage of you saying the thing. My guy, it’s all right there at the 10:16 mark on the video. Here, I’ll even link it for ya. To claim that a guy just doing his job and relaying what you said was doing something untoward in an effort to drum up clicks is a little slimy.
It’s even weirder of you to say the interviewer was the one that brought up the female singer in Linkin Park, when once again, the video proves otherwise. Come on, now.
As for what’s going on with Linkin Park, who the hell knows? It’s almost secondary at this point to the whole dumb ass drama that Gordon bumbled himself into. What a stupid story.
