Kiss announced at their final show that they will keep things going with their avatars for years to come, and they’ve already assured us that the avatars will keep getting better and better. Now, they’ve announced the first show the avatars will play… and it’s not until 2027.
While to most folks, that might seem like a ridiculously far in the future date, maybe Kiss fans are really ready to mark their calendars for that far in the future. And they haven’t dropped too much more information yet—This could be just one show, or plans for a tour or recurring spot somewhere. But we do know the avatars appear to be a huge project, and this is the next step.
Gene Simmons also has not been shy about sharing how much money went into the avatars—in typical Simmons fashion. Allegedly, they’re investing $200 million in the project, and they are going to keep improving as the years go on. And who knows what avatar technology will look like in 2027, so prepare to be wowed, or at least shake your head at how much money was spent.
“They’re gonna get better, that animated stuff,” he said previously about the avatars. “There’s so much being planned, even beyond my comprehension. But they’re spending, oh, about 200 million [dollars] to take it to the next level.”
However, everyone isn’t as excited about the avatars, Back when Simmons started bragging, Ace Frehley was quick to toss in his two cents and say he doesn’t feel the avatars are very rock ‘n’ roll—the worst possible put-down coming from a member of Kiss.
“I’m happy it’s over, because I’m not gonna be compared to them anymore… But I don’t get this avatar thing that they’re gonna do,” he claimed. “I mean, I saw some of it on a video on YouTube last night. It kind of looked like it was geared towards children. And it’s not rock and roll. I get up on stage without backing tracks, plug my amp into it, plug my guitar into a Marshall and go. That’s it. It’s always been that way and always will be.”
Whether the avatars will be a flop, or worth the money, remains to be seen, but it looks like we’re going to have to wait a while to find out.
