Dark Electronic Project Vexillary Fuses EBM with Krautrock in his Dreamlike Video for “Haute Cadaver”

Posted on 06/05/2023 By

“Haute Cadaver” is the new single from Vexillary, the enigmatic brainchild of New York City musician Reza Seirafi. The single emerges from the gloom with a distinctively dark and multifaceted synth sound.  Mere months subsequent to the unveiling of his inaugural LP, Full Frontal Lunacy, Vexillary triumphantly returns, brandishing a rejuvenated sonic aesthetic in his sophomore endeavor, Crash and Yearn, via con:trace.  “Haute Cadaver” stomps through the senses with a pounding, hypnotic EBM-meets-Krautrock fusion.

The undercurrent of gloom that pervades Seirafi’s creations is unmissable, while his distinctive production techniques add a unique flair to his oeuvre. This single is no exception.

In the self-directed visual counterpart Vexillary bestows a beguiling concoction of the peculiar and the entrancing. Adorned with the mesmerizing VFX and editing prowess of Glass Void, this phantasmagorical foray into the realms of the bizarre conjures an ethereal world where the arcane and the ordinary collide.

From the haunted echoes of Vexillary’s impassioned voice, we witness an extraordinary pas de deux between our tantalizing troubadour and a female protagonist, her proclivities shrouded in mystery. The narrative unfurls in a dreamlike cadence, punctuated by the intoxicating beauty of nature’s own vistas, as if plucked from the recesses of a fevered imagination.

A glitched-out symphony of the senses, “Haute Cadaver” deftly teeters on the precipice of light and dark, an exquisite juxtaposition of the macabre and the exuberant. Embracing the paradoxical essence of life itself, Vexillary triumphantly pays homage to the inescapable, twisted underbelly of existence while rejoicing in its kaleidoscopic splendor—a celebration of life’s inevitable chiaroscuro that leaves one both awestruck and bewitched.

Watch the video below:

Drawing inspiration from the mythological Fall of Icarus, Vexillary’s Crash and Yearn transports the audience on a riveting auditory voyage, fraught with inevitable demise yet wholly gratifying in its exploration. The title track’s guest vocalist, Baylee, hauntingly encapsulates the album’s thematic essence, crooning, “Your burnt wings tell a story, of odd fascinations one should never speak of.”

Here Vexillary masterfully weaves a cohesive technoid symphony, adorned with decadent lyricism and opulent production. Ultimately, paralleling the tragic fate of Icarus, Crash and Yearn bears witness to Vexillary’s unbridled ascent as a producer and composer, indulging our aural senses whilst disregarding the requisite sacrifices along the path.

Vexillary’s Reza Seirafi’s background as a chemist reveals an intriguing aspect of his artistic process. He found himself captivated by the mysterious connections between seemingly disparate chemical elements, which, when combined, yield otherworldly fragrances and perfectly balanced concoctions.

This alchemical curiosity extends to his production style, as Seirafi weaves together disparate sonic elements to craft his own decadent brand of electronic music, resonating with the post-punk ethos while pushing the boundaries of the genre.
