Turns Out Mastodon Was Just Teasing a $92 Set of Tiki Mugs

Two days ago, fans of Mastodon were set alight with speculation after posts on the band’s social media suggested something big was coming. With a tongue in cheek video featuring a caveman Troy Sanders bumbling around and the first few seconds of “Crystal Skull” playing in the background, people wondered if this was all to set up a special tour or new album announcement. But today we found out that just wasn’t meant to be.
Instead, the band took to social media again today to unveil what they’d been hinting at — a limited edition four-piece ceramic tiki mug set designed by Kevin Von Bachman. Each piece within the set is based on the band members, though if we’re being honest, Troy’s is the one that looks the most like him.
Oh and the set will set you back $92. Yes, you read that right. Ninety-two smackers. Ninety-two big ones. Ninety-two clams. That’s almost $100.
But you don’t just get four ceramic mugs for your $92 shekels. Far be it from Mastodon to offer you some expensive drink receptacles and nothing else. With each purchase, you will receive an email featuring… *drum roll* tiki recipes hand-selected by each member of the band.
So there ya have it. No new music, no new tour info. Just tiki mugs available in time for all of your summer shindigs.
