Shoutout to Tetrarch drummer Ruben Limas, who has just officially become an American citizen.
He was officially granted citizenship on Thursday, February 23.
In their post about the news, the band say:
“Today our very own @rubenoftetrarch officially became an American Citizen. When we met Ruben 8 years ago and he officially became a part of Tetrarch, he had recently moved here from Venezuela to follow his dreams of being a drummer. He knew almost no English, but we connected with him on a level deeper than any language could ever express and that was with music. Now, 8 years later we couldn’t be any more proud of having him along for this journey. We love and are so proud of you @rubenoftetrarch!!!”
This has long since been a dream for Limas. He has shared his background in Venezuela and how seeing someone play drums in church inspired him to start drumming, even if it was on his mothers pots and pans at first. At age 10, he got a drum kit, and the rest was history. He eventually joined a band, and then moved the to the U.S. in 2014 to escape political turmoil. He also explained that metal fandom wasn’t a common thing in his home country. After moving, he met and joined Tetrarch.
“These guys have become my family. I have no one else here and it was such a perfect fit,” he says.
Folks who move to the U.S. and seek to become citizens must be at least 18 when they apply, and must have been legally living in the U.S. for three to five years. They also need to pass a citizen test and be able to read, write, and speak in English.
Limas has so far recorded two albums with the band, and was involved in their most recent effort, Unstable, in 2021. Now that he is a citizen, there will hopefully be many more.
