Don’t tell me anymore that I don’t know how to speak
Can’t you see we’re burning?
The flames will give way to the morning
You don’t care about the wreckage
How can you avoid every message?
Spanish synthpop mavericks, SDH (Semiotics Department of Heteronyms), are debuting a thrilling new single, “Hectic“, paving the way for their much-anticipated sophomore album, “Fake is Real,” under the Avant! Records imprint.
The cerebral and creative partnership of Barcelona-based Andrea P. Latorre and Sergi Algiz fuels SDH, marrying a cornucopia of eclectic electronic textures, including big beat, Eurodance, synth-pop, hard trance, and EBM, to craft a deeply intimate and emotionally resonant sonic journey. With the likes of DA Blitz, the Prodigy, Yves Deruyter, Faithless, and early-90s Coil as their muses, they audaciously shatter genre boundaries, ensuring an enthralling listening experience.
The heart of the accompanying video bares its soul under the deft, visionary hands of Duelo, throbbing an irresistible pulse; a surge of shadowy radiance. Within its rhythmic folds, the resonating lament of Hectic becomes a vortex of emotion, its sombre notes of desolation echoing within the cavernous depths of the dark disco beat, an elegy for love lost and a celebration of solitude.
And who better to embody this clash of sensations than ethereal dancer Katalin Arana? Hers is not just a performance but a waltz of raw, vigorous emotion. Each movement etches a story of sorrow and strength, choreographed to the poignant pulse of SDH’s beats, each step an interpretation of the melancholic melody; each twirl a testament to the resilience of the broken-hearted.
The video is no mere record of performance, it’s an exploration of the rhythm of heartbreak, the ballet of bitterness. Like a ballet dancer on a stage bereft of audience, Arana dances through the beats of lost love, painting the monochrome video canvas with strokes of vibrant despair and strength, the melancholy music echoing around her. The sadness is almost tangible, tasted in each note, felt in each fierce movement. The emotional intensityperfectly mirrors the powerful lament of the dark disco beat, turning the video into a breathtaking VHS-filtered symphony of sight and sound.

At the pulsing heart of this SDH endeavor lies an exploration of the paradoxical universe of fiction. The project poses searing, fundamental queries: What dialect do conjured identities speak? How does one define fiction? Every individual is a chameleon – a mercurial essence that shifts and flows, tangible yet transient.
SDH thrives on the binary tension woven into its very soul in a fascinating dance between disparate elements. Sergi, the wizard behind the console, orchestrates a dazzling array of electronic rhythms that journey through the realms of techno, EBM, synthpop, and electro. His craft lays down an intoxicating club beat that reverberates with a tangible energy, an exhilarating pulse that underscores their music. Counterbalancing this is Andrea, whose emotive, lyric-driven vocals introduce an element of romantic nostalgia. Her voice floats above Sergi’s pounding rhythms, a delicate counterpoint that softens the impact and introduces an alluring contrast. In the end, their divergent energies unify into a harmonious whole.
They also have been partnering with several video artists such as Duelo , Pilar Gost and Pol Barrós.
Fake Is Real is out on the 30th of June 2023. Pre-order Here
