Listen to Darkwave Project Distance H’s Tenebrous “Intimacy” EP

Posted on 16/05/2023 By

Distance H, the brainchild of Parisian producer ManuH, is a dynamic project characterized by its collaborative spirit and a distinct air of mystery. Manu H often teams up with an array of female vocalists, each of whom infuses her own unique allure into the project’s signature style. This collective approach imbues the project’s moody and melancholic sound with a diverse range of voices, amplifying its magnetic charm.

Distance H orchestrates an audial cosmos that straddles multiple genres, drawing from the depths of post-punk, dark wave, cold wave, ethereal, and shoegaze. He draws inspiration from The Cure, Joy Division, Siouxsie And The Banshees, Cocteau Twins, The Sisters of Mercy and The Chameleons), but also by the need to musically express an afterglow of feelings.  This expansive musical palette is further enriched by occasional forays into more electronically-driven beats. The project’s ability to synthesize these diverse elements results in a rich, immersive sound that transcends conventional genre boundaries.

Greeted by a universe of profound melancholy, the inaugural EP from Distance H, “Intimacy,” channels an empowering spirit through its potent guitar melodies. This compelling and deeply personal EP serves as a canvas of introspection and relation. The central motif of this joint endeavor circles around the theme of ‘distance.’ All of the vocalists are encouraged to reflect upon their individual experiences from a new perspective.

“Bitch 16” is a compelling showcase of Ophelia’s (Saigon Blue Rain) commanding vocal prowess, filled to the brim with drama, melancholy and the power of the divine feminine unleashed. The theme continues with the intoxicating, haunting “Twilight”. “Waters of Woe,” graced by the celestial vocal stylings of Marita Volodina (Stridulum, Burial Fields, Blood Tears After), is an symphonic masterpiece that defies the boundaries of conventional music, shrouded in a seductive darkness, beckoning you with an irresistible allure.

“Reason To Rush,” featuring Liset Alea (Nouvelle Vague), is a compelling dream pop anthem that dances on the edge of logic and spontaneity, transitioning from radiant euphoria to the depths of despair, drawing you into a sonic labyrinth of enchantment. “Leaden Sky” embodies a piercing instant of brutal clarity where cold, unyielding rationality takes center stage and the heart’s defiance falls silent. It’s a sonic representation of a day consumed by shadows, with the horizon nowhere to be found – a lyrical canvas painted with hues of desolation.

It is a gorgeous EP, available for streaming below:
