Take everything you know about Imperial Triumphant and throw it out the window for a few moments because what you’re about to hear from their bassist Steve Blanco’s solo project isn’t that at all. Forget all the wild bombast and insanely out there avant-garde-ness that band’s become known for and instead check out Blanco’s uniquely atmospheric solo bass album, Going To The Sun.
Released yesterday, the six track album highlights the New York City-based multi-instrumentalist’s attention to detail as he crafts sonic soundscapes so deep, they sometimes border on abyssal. It’s wild what sounds Blanco manages to strangle out of his bass.
Speaking of the record, Blanco said Going To The Sun was the first of a series of releases he plans on completing over time.
“Going To The Sun is the first in a series of new solo music projects. Like many of us, I’m constantly working on channeling the mysteries of the universe. Music seems to be part of that mystery and the bass guitar is a great medium. Filthy, heavy, and dark with strong Sunn O))) vibes it’s just me, a bass, and some pedals.”
You can check out the album in the player below. If you’d like to support Blanco, be sure to pick up your copy today over on his Bandcamp page.
