Ghost Dropped a New Single and Announced Cover EP Phantomime

Put down the chocolate eggs and forget about that stupid ass bunny. This Easter brought something for everyone — including us non-believers that groggily woke up on the couch this morning — the announcement of a new Ghost cover EP titled Phantomime and the music video for their cover of Genesis’ “Jesus He Loves Me.”

For weeks, Ghost has been hinting that “Jesus is Coming,” dropping multiple “lore” videos suggesting the biblical figure was heading for the world of Papa Emeritus IV, Sister Imperator, and whatnot. And after a half-hour long “Jesus Talk” on the band’s YouTube page hosted by Father Jim DeFroque, we got a closer glimpse at the depicted holy man in the band’s latest video.

As you’ll see below, our new character has quite a few vices of his own — drugs, sex, rock and roll, hockey team circle jerks. It’s that last part that actually makes this video pretty much unwatchable around your family this Easter Sunday, but hey, maybe your family is into that sorta thing.

According to Ghost, Phantomime will feature five covers including this one. Other titles include tracks by Television, The Stranglers, Iron Maiden and Tina Turner. Yes, that Tina Turner.

Just as Tobias Forge promised that the band would have new material before they went out on our, the band’s fulfilled that promise, since they’ll head out on a new European tour just days after the release of Phantomime. You can check out the full list of days, including their run of North American dates this summer, below the video.

Phantomime will release on May 18, though you can preorder your copy today.
