Last night, at the final stop of The Geek Show tour with Spotlights, the Melvins, and Mr. Bungle, fans got a special treat as Buzz Osbourne, Trey Spruance, Mike Patton, Trevor Dunn, Dave Lombardo, and Scott Ian stared the stage in Oakland, California for a special treat.
The final song of the show ended up being a special rendition of Fantômas’ “Experiment in Terror” off the band’s 2001 classic, Director’s Cut. That whole record was the band’s take on various songs from movie soundtracks and the one they performed last night was based on the Henry Mancini song that was written for the 1960s movie of the same name.
While this is such a cool scenario for numerous reasons, it’s especially awesome because Fantômas hasn’t played a show live since 2017, according to Setlist.FM.
Naturally, since this wasn’t a Fantômas show, it’s missing some of the extra bells and whistles that Patton tends to sprinkle throughout the band’s performance through the use of various synths and other pieces of tech. Still, it’s awesome to hear them play that song 22 years after its initial release. (Jesus, I’m getting old…)
So yeah, that’s real exciting. Here’s hoping Mr. Bungle will get to do some more special shit when they head out to the east coast for the first time in more than two decades this September. I know I’m going to do everything I can to attend and you should too. Just check the listed dates and ticket links below.
