There’s that old saying that all good things must come to an end and as we’ve come to learn over hte years, that can also apply to our favorite bands. While chatting on The Jeremy White Show podcast, Megadeth frontman and ex-Metallica member (not sure if you knew that fact) Dave Mustaine was asked about how he sees the band coming to an end.
And while it’s a topic he’s likely uncomfortable to consider given the fact that he’s been running Megadeth since the early 80s, Mustaine admitted that the thing he sees derailing the band for good could only be his voice.
“I’m sure that that’s going to come at some point, but you know I don’t see anything right now. I feel good about my health and… the only thing that would be weird is if I ever got in a situation where I have to stop singing. Even if I could play, if I couldn’t sing – I think because of [Megadeth] being built on my voice – I don’t think that I would carry on. I just think if I didn’t do that, I would be cheating the fans.
“Not that I’m a great singer, but I have a lot of a lot of thinking to do as we are watching the sun rise on our career right now. Because it should should be setting. It’s setting on a lot of my peers’ career, if it isn’t already set. But it seems like the sun is still rising in the land of all things [Megadeth].”
So there you have it. It won’t be because he’s becoming a generally old man at 61 years old, or the logistical nightmares that’s killed smaller bands in recent months, but rather his already polarizing voice giving out would spell doom for Megadeth. In all honesty, it makes sense — especially since the band practically broke up once when Mustaine thought he would no longer be able to play guitar following a wrist injury. Oh and don’t forget he’s already battled cancer once before.
Still, it seems like Megadeth’s putting out zero signs of stopping, especially after releasing their latest album last year titled The Sick, The Dying, … The Dead. Yet if the band were to lose their only frontman, it kinda makes sense that Megadeth would be donezo.
