A GoFundMe campaign aimed at starting a memorial fund for Cayle Sain has shattered its own goals in a short amount of time, as love and support for the fallen 31-year-old drummer continues to pour in from all over the country.
In less than 20 hours, the campaign started by Andrea Adolph and three others blew past its initial $10,000 goal, earning more than double that from nearly 300 donations. According to the campaign page, the funds will be used to create a memorial fund and to help support his surviving loved ones: his single mother, Kathy, his brother, Taylor and his girlfriend, Hailey.
Sain was credited as having played drums for a wide range of projects including Twitching Tongues, Ghostemane, Betrayal, Fuming Mouth, God’s Hate, and other acts. His most recent studio recording came from Twitching Tongues’ Misfits covers EP titled Twitchfits Vol. 1, though he was also the drummer on record for Fuming Mouth’s 2019 album The Grand Descent.
According to official records, Sain passed away on Sunday at a residence in Los Angeles County. He was just weeks away from celebrating his 32nd birthday.
News of his passing began to circulate after 197 Media and Twitching Tongues released official statements via social media this past Sunday afternoon. In the hours that followed, numerous tributes were posted in honor of Sain, who was commonly described as incredibly loving individual and in one instance, called the “backbone” of the Southern California music scene.
In one such tribute, Twitching Tongues vocalist Colin Young credited Sain for reportedly single-handedly keeping some bands in the Southern California area afloat — including Twitching Tongues.
“A true artist and a TRUE legend. Cayle was sensitive, hilarious and the most passionate musician I’ve ever played with. He possessed irreplaceable talent and an even more irreplaceable spirit who had nothing but love to give to everyone in his life. He remembered every face, every name and talked about so many of you so often.
“Cayle is and was the rhythm backbone of Southern California, he SAVED multiple bands, Twitching Tongues would have stopped a long time ago if he didn’t step up.
“I’m in absolute shock and go in and out of crying every few minutes, half from grief, and half from remembering something funny he said or did. Truly a comedic genius and I can’t believe I’ll never get to hear another joke again. If God is real, he opened the gates for Cayle with a subscription to SoundCloud premium, a fresh bottle of sweet baby rays and a damn hearing aid.
“I hope that everyone, at some point, gets to have a friend like Cayle. Goodbye to our buddy, we love you.”
If you would like to contribute to the GoFundMe campaign, be sure to head over to the page and donate what you can. Our thoughts continue to go out to Sain’s friends, family, and bandmates during this difficult time.
