Within Temptation is Getting Their Own Comic Book Adaptation

Thanks to a collaboration with Opus Comics, Within Temptation are joining the ranks of Slayer, GWAR, and BABYMETAL as yet another metal act that’s getting their own comic book adaptation.
Based on the band’s 2019 studio effort Resist, as well as their 2021 virtual concert Aftermath, the newly announced three-issue comic book miniseries from Opus Comics will tell the band’s story of a futuristic battle against artificial intelligence.
Written by young adult author Marieke Nijkamp, the story will focus mostly on humanity’s “techno-organic matriarch” and the “struggle to balance what she was created to be with the impossible forces that shape her.” Heavy metal artist Montos will give the books their unique visual style.
Within Temptation co-founder and vocalist Sharon den Adel said the band was stoked to see the characters they’ve created over the years translated to the comic book page.
“The Purge cover star GENESIS has come to life on our stage and in different merchandise designs, and now she will be taking you on the biggest quest of her life — in both our next album as well as in our comic book series. Teaming up with Opus for this seemed like the logical decision, as they are a heavyweight in creating comic books and only work with the best designers and storytellers. We can’t wait to show you the final result! We hope you’ll enjoy it as much as we do!”
The first issue will be available later this year, with the limited edition first print run to feature a numbered foil cover by Augustin Alessio. This version will be sold direct from Incendium Online, with a newsstand version available this May.
