Static-X Release One of the Last Songs Written by Wayne Static in “Stay Alive”

Addiction is a hell of a disease and sadly, too many artists have been lost because of it. Sadly, Wayne Static falls into that category. Earlier today, the band dropped a previously unreleased track that they’re saying was one of the last things Static was working on before his death. Titled “Stay Alive,” it deals with some dark subjects and sounds like a man trying to wrestle his demons.

Static-X bassist Tony Campos said today’s release marks a dark moment in the band’s history, as the music video features outtakes from the “Assassins of Youth” video.

“We knew that if we were going to release this song, we wouldn’t be able to tip toe around this tragic subject. The first draft of the video was really hard for all of us to watch, so we ended up removing many of the more graphic scenes. As dark as this piece of art may be, it is also a very honest representation of where Wayne was at during this controversial time. My hope is that when people see this, that they understand the cautionary tale that Wayne’s life ultimately became and can avoid some of those pitfalls.”

Though the song and video are undoubtedly hard for those close to Static to endure, his sister Aimee Pittman said the overall benefit of highlighting his struggle with drugs could outweigh that pain.

“We always want to remember Wayne as the intelligent, funny, Star Trek loving, rock star. It makes his family sad and angry to see Wayne depicting himself in a way that we understand to be a realistic portrayal of his life and the choices that ultimately ended it. If one person watching this video can benefit or make better choices related to drugs and alcohol, then we are grateful for the reminder.”

“Stay Alive” will be featured on the upcoming release, Project Regeneration: Vol. 2, which will be out on November 3. You can preorder your copies today. The band will also be hitting the road with Sevendust and Dope next month. You can check out the full list of dates below.
