New York City’s Ken Fury unleashes a torrent with “Your Blood in Me” from his new album “Plains of Inferno.”
Fury’s artistry weaves an opulent tapestry adorned with multidimensional figures, abstract mysteries, and spaces sprung from the fertile soil of his dreams, subconscious reveries, and life’s assorted encounters. Each brushstroke is saturated with themes pulsing with life’s vibrancy – the ache and bliss of love, the shrouded mystery of mortality, the chrysalis of transformation, the heady allure of eroticism, the ethereal whispers of spirituality, and the haunting reverberations of colonization’s relentless echo.
“Your Blood in Me” is about tapping into the experiences and lives of past ancestors that are carried through our blood and consciousness and how we are the culmination of them and all that existed before, from humans to the Earth, sky, and universe,” says Fury. “The song also touches on becoming aware of oneself and dismantling the colonial constructs through the generations of past assimilation attempts. The song also represents the layers of physical and spiritual dimensions and the connection to ancestral spaces over time.”
This inky splash of darkwave, with its unmistakable reverberations of Bowie’s celestial Blackstar, finds its rhythm in the heart of the cosmos. Fury’s vocals, whispered as if in celestial meditation, traverse the stellar expanses, seamlessly merging with the profound transitions of haunting chords and nebulous pads. These elements unite to spin a web of tantalising enigma, holding the listener captive within its folds. The consequence is a sublime hypnotism that lulls the senses, a captivating aural dance that echoes in the twilight space between consciousness and dreams.
The video, directed by photographer and filmmaker Taranita Costales, was filmed through mirrored landscape clips shot in the plains and mountains of his homelands in southern Colorado. Costales conceived the innovative idea of placing a prism crystal in front of the camera: this clever trick bent the light to create spontaneous, enduring effects, further enhancing the element of chance in the visual narrative.

Emerging from the vibrant chaos of New York’s avant-garde scene, multi-faceted artist Ken Fury – also known as Kenneth Marez Jr. – traces his roots back to the earthy depths of Pueblo, Colorado. He casts his artistic gaze through the lens of his Nuevomexicano and Indigenous Genízaro heritage, delving deep into the contrasting dualities of existence – the cycle of creation and obliteration – and the entwined dance between humanity and the rhythms of nature.
In 2010, Ken Fury felt the pull to intertwine his poetry, the themes and imagery from his paintings, and dance. This inspiration led him to explore the realm of electronic instruments, experimenting with drum machines, synthesizers, theremin, as well as bass and guitar. He went on to compose and perform all the music on the albums Flowers Fall Asleep (2012), Moonlight Bloom (2013), The Cry of Nature’s Birth (2016), and Rain over Clouds (2020), all proudly released under his own label, Inerus Music.
His music, a symphony of atmospheric soundscapes, invites listeners into otherworldly realms, tethered to the past and the future yet intertwining with life on Earth. The rich tapestry of textured electronics and commanding drums guide the journey. His lyrics amalgamate romantic, sci-fi, and futuristic themes into a unique poetic vision. Additionally, Fury steps behind the camera to direct the accompanying short films for his songs, which have earned screenings and accolades at film festivals.
A notable highlight of his career came in 2022 when he was nominated for the prestigious Native American Music Awards. Ken Fury continues his artistic journey with his upcoming album, Plains of Inferno, scheduled for release on August 16, 2023 via Inerus Music. Plains of Inferno is Ken Fury’s fifth album – all written, performed, and produced by the artist. The album was mastered by Elliot James Mulhern at Deep Fondness Studios, Hollywood, CA.
Plains of Inferno is out on August 16, 2023
