Moon Tooth to Make Their Triumphant Return to the Stage This May

Last July, things looked bleak for the progressive metal band Moon Tooth. At that time, the band was getting ready to play a show with Cave In when their guitarist Nick Lee began suffering from seizures. He was hospitalized and put in a medically-induced coma for over a month as doctors worked to battle back against what they diagnosed as Limbic Encephalitis. There was an outpouring of support and eventually he got better.

Well, earlier this week the band announced that not only is Lee back up and doing well, but they’re ready to begin playing gigs again. On May 20, the band will celebrate the one-year anniversary of their album Phototroph, but they’ll be celebrating a new lease on life when they play at The Brooklyn Monarch.

Lee said the decision to play live was an easy one, given everything they went through.

“The way myself and the rest of Moon Tooth see this situation is we could hide from the mystery brain disease for another six months, a year, six years; or we could face it directly this Spring and do what we do best, which is play a killer live show alongside some of our best friends. We’ve been working our asses off to get back to tip top shape and I have been fortunate enough to have the most incredible support base a person could hope for in blood, family, and health, so let’s hang May 20th and truly make up for some lost time!”

In addition to the announcement that they’re heading back on stage, the band released a music video for their track “Grip on the Ridge” from their most recent studio effort. Vocalist John Carbone said the video “deals with something that will undoubtedly be revisited in future recordings of ours.”

“While writing this record, my family was dealing with the sudden and unexpected passing of my uncle. With my family being as tight-knit as we are, personally experiencing that and especially watching my cousins endure it after having already lost their mother ten years prior was more terrible than I can convey. The song reflects not only a person having to face that horror, but also the monumental question of ‘Where do we go from here?’ It reflects the desperate grasp for the will to go on.”

You can catch the new video below and if you’re going to be in the New York City area this May, be sure to pick up tickets to their show at The Brooklyn Monarch when they go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. EST.
