Meersein and Corlyx Debut Video for Darkwave Duet “Her Slave”

Posted on 31/03/2023 By

Love is a ‘many splendoured thing,’ but sometimes dependency on another can become its own prison. When it becomes a contract of enslavement to another’s whims and desires, one can lose control – and forget their own free will.

This is the impetus behind the new track from Meersein and Corlyx: “Her Slave,” a hauntingly beautiful track that encapsulates the feeling of being so drawn to someone that we lose sight of everything else – ultimately falling into a perilous cycle of dependency and energetic draining. The lyrics offer a vivid portrayal of a person who has become enslaved to their lover’s desires, unable to break free from the chains of infatuation.

This song offers a unique fusion of classic 80s synth-pop sounds and modern effects, resulting in an intoxicating blend of the old and new. The instrumentation is reminiscent of Depeche Mode’s “Violator” era, while also incorporating elements of contemporary bands like Nuovo Testamento. The driving boy-girl interplay in the vocals, delivered by Meersein and Corlyx, are truly mesmerizing, conveying the track’s theme of addiction and entrapment in a powerful, anthemic chorus.

The video for Her Slave, opening strong with images of a bloodied apple and a serpent – implying mankind’s fall from grace – bounces between performance and the aimless wandering of a zombified entity in a hooded cloak. Where is he headed? Who is he? Does he remember who he is anymore?
