Listen to Dark Dream Pop Trio Magic Wands’ New Album “Switch”

Posted on 12/05/2023 By

In the midst of an ever-changing music scene, there’s a dazzling trio that’s been busy crafting their own melodic universe: Magic Wands. Formed in the musical bedrock of Nashville before finding their groove amidst the bright lights of Los Angeles, Magic Wands has been casting their spell of darkly seductive dream-pop onto the American music landscape.

Their recent single, “Time,” is an audacious and psychedelic probe into the fabric of existence. The song dances around the concept of time, questioning its solidity, intent, and elusive nature. Is it a phantom trickster, morphing our realities, or a faithful keeper of our life’s milestones? Is it an absolute truth, or just a shared figment of our human perception?

“Time” encapsulates the polarity of its subject matter with finesse, transforming into a sonic reminder of our transient voyage within this boundless cosmic drama. Its lingering questions echo long after the final note, urging us to unlock our own cognitive gates. Reminiscent of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Chris & Cosey, Pixies, and the 90s Britpop vibe, “Time” is the entrée to their forthcoming album, “Switch.” The album is slated for release on May 12th by Metropolis Records, available on compact disc and digital and streaming platforms.

Magic Wands’ Switch is a mesmerizing ensemble of darkly enchanting dream pop tunes. This captivating journey transports listeners through moody and atmospheric soundscapes reminiscent of the shadowy drama that flourished within alternative rock between 1988 and 1991. Each song weaves a somber yet enthralling mood that is both cathartic and exhilarating as they explore the mysterious corridors of “Switch.”

The album opens with a haunting prelude that seamlessly transitions into the introspective dreamscape of “Joy.” From there, “Switch” maintains its relentless, dark reverie up until the final track, “Candle Sea.” The Bandcamp version of the album also includes several exclusive remixes that are not to be missed.

Their music is celebrated for its euphoria-inducing essence, an aspect that is particularly palpable during their mesmerizing live performances. Their musical sorcery has attracted a dedicated following of listeners, entranced by the band’s distinctive sound and their ability to awaken a sense of awe and mystical allure within their compositions.
