Lil Tay Apparently Returned from the Dead to Play “Master of Puppets”

In a strange timeline twist that could only possibly happen in our reality, one-time internet fad and social media villain Lil Tay proved her supposed death was a hoax by hopping on an Instagram live post and playing “Master of Puppets” on guitar.

For those not familiar, Lil Tay is a rapper and viral influencer who was recently believed dead because of some cryptic Instagram post, allegedly from her parents, saying she and her brother had passed. The internet was abuzz trying to figure out if she was really dead or if it was a hoax. Soon it was revealed that it was a hoax, one the family claims was only due to hackers and not a publicity stunt… but no one’s buying that.

Now, in her first public move in five years, she is back on screen and playing Metallica. And honestly, say what you will about Lil Tay and internet celebs, she kind of slaps. In addition to playing with large sums of money and weird camera angles, Tay clearly spends some time playing guitar as well — even though she’s playing it wrong. Work on your downpicking, Tay!

But don’t take our word for it; listen for yourselves, and if you’re so inclined, though in a slightly different musical vein than “Master of Puppets,” you can also check out her new music video below.

Of course, “Master of Puppets” has been trending since 2022 when it featured in Season 4 of Stranger Things. But we’d be curious to learn if Tay is a metal fan in general, or if she just happened onto the song because of it’s popularity.

Whatever the answer, one thing is clear: Lil Tay is back with a vengeance, and this timeline isn’t getting any more normal.
