Hold onto your butts, progressive metal fans — Ihsahn is back with a new single and it’s an absolute banger. Titled “Pilgrimage to Oblivion,” the track is the first single off the newly announced self-titled album coming out on February 16 via Candlelight. And if this song is indicative of what we’re going to get…. holy shit.
According to the band, the new album will “embody two melodically interlinked versions of the same album,” with one part being metal and the other part being fully symphonic. As such, the band dropped the original version and a symphonic version of “Pilgrimage to Oblivion.”
Coming along with the single are two separate videos, with the metal version featuring footage shot by Shaun Hodson of Loki Films, while the second video is a visualizer created by Costin Chioreanu.
According to Ishahn, the new single conveys the overarching concept of the album.
“‘Pilgrimage to Oblivion’ serves as a rather immediate introduction to the overarching musical and conceptual aspects of the album. The lyrics go directly into the storyline and the video is the first in a sequel of videos portraying the whole story.”
Ihsahn’s upcoming self-titled album is set to release on February 16 via Candlelight. You can preorder the album now.
