German Synth Pop Artist Janosch Moldau Debuts Video for “We Behaved Wrong”

Posted on 01/10/2023 By

In a realm of pensive posturing and contemplative charm, Janosch Moldau stands unwavering, carving a niche in the world of electronic dance. Over the arcs of time, this German virtuoso has garnered a loyal audience, captivated by his unique melancholic harmonies. His offerings, marked by their irresistible hooks and melodies, subtly echo the timeless strains of Depeche Mode, The Cure, and Red Flag.

Janosch Moldau now releases “We Behaved Wrong,” the second single from the current EP ‘Aid And Abet.” The single contains three versions: the single cut, the Sad Ritual Mix and Aid and Abet: the Radical Loneliness Mix. We hear elements of Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, Modern Talking, Erasure and Enigma in its forlorn sound.

The evocative DIY video portrays Moldau navigating a junkyard, sifting through debris with an air of desolation. His repetitive toiling with bags, reminiscent of the endless endeavors of Sisyphus, imbues the scene with a profound sense of existential contemplation.

Watch below:

Channeling resonances that call to mind legends like Depeche Mode and The Cure, Janosch Moldau has steadily charmed an international cohort of enthusiasts, transcending Germany’s borders. Comprising the titular Janosch and his astute manager, the electro-pop duo boasts a storied discography, their melodies leading them on European sojourns, frequently in the company of the genre’s luminaries.

Of late, Janosch’s creative inklings have found a haven beside the placid expanse of Italy’s Lake Lugano—the birthplace of his imminent album’s tracks. April 28th saw the unveiling of “This is my show,” a compelling harbinger to the much-anticipated EP, “Aid and Abet.” Released on May 26, 2023, this oeuvre paints emotional landscapes spanning the spectrums of passion, overstep, ephemerality, and parting. A highlight is his collaboration with Kurt Uenala, celebrated for his work with icons like Dave Gahan and Depeche Mode.

“Aid and Abet,” beyond its titular prominence, also stands as an idiom, rich in duality and intricate layers of meaning: “In the songs, the “negative connotation in the sense of aiding and abetting crime” is found,” he says. “There would be those “smaller, inconspicuous crimes in the everyday banal space of the family: divorce, sex and crime, negative karma, the whole ‘Denver Clan’. But this small banal suffering, in my opinion, has an extremely large radius of pain.”

We Behaved Wrong is available in all music stores and on all streaming platforms via The Orchard/Sony (NYC). After the tour supporting Front Line Assembly, which ended at the beginning of June, the musician is now on another major European/UK tour with Megaherz and Combichrist.
