Dark Synth Project Total Chroma Debuts Eerie Oldschool EBM Single “Such Filth”

Posted on 04/05/2023 By

Hailing from Vancouver, Total Chroma unveils their incendiary new single, “Such Filth,” a tantalizing taste of their forthcoming album, L A P L A N D, set to launch on the 14th of October, 2023 via Negative Gain.

Total Chroma emerges as the brainchild of Robert Katerwol (Wire Spine, Weird Candle), who unleashes a deluge of frenetic synths, cosmic cacophonies, and swift, immersive soundscapes with “Such Filth.” This unsettling, dystopian track delves into themes of surveillance and oppression with a raw, emotive human touch woven into the edgy, arpeggio-laden synthpunk soundscape, which Katerwol describes as a ‘repetitive mantra that celebrates beauty emerging from darkness and dirt, and filth.’

The EBM inspired number was written specifically for late night secret dance parties in warehouses with the intention of being a clever club banger.

“I just try to cram some thematic nonsensical cliches beneath the veil of metaphysical melancholy,” he jokes. “How can I sneak some philosophical nuggets of random wisdom into a song that people would hopefully dance to at 3:00 am?!!”

How, indeed. Strap on your Docs and immerse yourself in the mire of the night….because, as Katerwol quips, “from the filth grows louts.”

The LP from Total Chroma, L A P L A N D, is now slated for an Oct 14th, 2023 vinyl release on L.A label Negative Gain.

Channeling the essence of Italo disco, classic EBM, minimal wave, and post-punk, Katerwol morphs into Total Chroma, concocting an intoxicating fusion of genres that ignites dance floors with unbridled energy. Katerwol has been a tour de force in the music scene since 2012, creating, releasing, performing, and embarking on tours throughout North America and Europe.

Katerwol has graced the stage alongside the likes of Lebanon Hanover, Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, She Past Away, Boy Harsher, Youth Code, Psyche, Schwefelgelb, Latitia Sadier, Severed Heads, Selofan, Pastel Ghost, Pure Ground, Nuovo Testamento, Kontavoid, Drab Majesty, Qual, High Functioning Flesh, Light Asylum, and countless others.

In the rare moments of respite from producing electrifying tunes and traversing the globe, Katerwol co-organizes Vancouver’s annual Verboden Music Festival.
