Chicago Darkwave Act Replicant Returns with the Cinematic Synth of “HEAVENSENT”

Posted on 06/05/2023 By

Painting a sonic portrait of a bleak future, Chicago-based Replicant weaves a fusion of analogue, organic, and digital sounds to create a dystopian masterpiece in their new track, “HEAVENSENT.” With soulful crooning, seductive synths, and pounding bass lines, Replicant ingeniously melds influences from the darkest corners and the dazzling spectrums of our contemporary dystopia. The song’s nostalgic aura evokes the feeling of an ’80s sci-fi classic theme song, as if discovered on a dog-eared VHS tape hidden within the sanctuary of a long-lost video rental store. “HEAVENSENT” captures the essence of a world on the edge, artfully reflecting the duality of hope and despair that defines our uncertain tomorrow.

“HEAVENSENT” marks Replicant’s return after over three years of dormancy through the pandemic. HEAVENSENT and its sister track HELLBOUND will both be featured on an upcoming full-length due out later this year.

Among a dossier of esteemed darkwave acts, Replicant has been meticulously crafting and adding to their digitized sonic identity for over a decade, enriching the genre with their unique contributions.

With their latest offering, “HEAVENSENT,” the trio of Garrett Vernon, Justin DeLay, and Jordan DeLay deftly handle the writing, recording, and production duties, while Sanford Parker lends his expertise to the mix and master.

Throughout their storied career, Replicant has shared the stage with revered acts such as HEALTH, The Soft Moon, Youth Code, Lust for Youth, Perturbator, Carpenter Brut, and Cold Showers. The band has also showcased their electrifying live presence at the iconic Cold Waves Festival at the Metro, performing alongside legends like Front 242, KMFDM, Severed Heads, Stabbing Westward, Cold Cave, Drab Majesty, Statiqbloom, and many more.

In addition to their captivating live performances, Replicant’s haunting melodies and melancholic atmospheres can be heard in the score for the documentary, 2350 Last Call: The Neo Story. The band has also long devoted their energies toward raising funds and awareness for various causes, including The Voting Rights Project and COVID relief fundraisers.

This year, Replicant will grace the stage at Chicago’s Sanctum Festival, joining an impressive lineup featuring the Soft Moon, Lust for Youth, Geneva Jacuzzi, and a host of other notable acts.
