Where have the lonely ones gone to?
Pen to paper and the lure of the dance
All we want is romance
Brooklyn synthpop duo The Mystic Underground, known for their captivating blend of thoughtful lyrics and seductive electronic music, is back with an enthralling new 2-track single, “The Lonely Ones.” This latest offering includes a stunning remix by German dark electronic pop icons Beborn Beton and is released via Re:Mission Entertainment. The single serves as an enticing teaser for the band’s forthcoming new album, Everyone Deserves A Stage.
“The Lonely Ones” features buoyant synths and rustic bells, evoking the Gareth Jones-era Berlin Depeche Mode tracks, and crooning vocals that blend seamlessly with the house-like synthpop sensibilities of Saint Etienne. This unique combination creates a vintage dance-pop sound reminiscent of club hits of the late 80s.
The music video for “The Lonely Ones” showcases the band’s signature sound and aesthetic while telling a powerful story of heartache. A man wakes from slumber, checking his smartphone for a rendezvous with a silver-haired woman. Their electrifying chemistry is palpable, but intercut shots of the man, forlorn and despondent, reveal the true nature of their relationship. Filmed and edited by Steve Celestin, the narrative is left ambiguous – much like the confusing language of dating itself.
