Bloody Canadian shock metallers Blood Opera have announced they will be dropping a surprise album this month titled Songs in the Key of Death.
The Toronto-based band who claim they coined the term “dead metal” are reanimating all the best horror tropes on this latest album. The record will release February 24. They’ve also shared two videos ahead of the release for “The Gates of Hell” and “Be My Victim,” which you can stream below.
According to the band, some of their songs were based on horror films.
“’The Gates of Hell’ was inspired by the cult film of the same name. Another heavy track brings in more modern influences and progressions. It features guest keyboard work by Goblin’s Maurizio Guarini. ‘Be My Victim’ is a bonus track from 2022 and features actor Tony Todd and is based on the film Candyman. As it is an older song, it features a couple of members no longer in the band but as it is an important song for us we wanted to include it. Fans of Ghost will dig this keyboard and chorus-driven rocker.”
The entire record pays homage to their favorite horror films in the most metal way possible. If you’re a fan of sleaze and cheese, you won’t want to miss this one.
