Baroness’ John Baizley and Gina Gleason Talk Stone Over Board Games in Philly

Listen — we metalheads are all nerds to some degree. Whether it’s Dungeons & Dragons on the weekdays or geeking out over new guitar tech, we all have something we love to an almost obsessive degree. For yours truly, that’s gaming. Board games, video games, role playing games, you name it, I’ve probably at least tried it. And I’m always trying to find ways to bring those interests over to MetalSucks.

One such idea was to interview a band while playing board games. With Baroness’ upcoming album Stone being a highly anticipated release, I shot my shot and pitched the idea to John Baizley and Gina Gleason. It was a shot in the dark, so you can imagine my surprise when they not only refrained from telling me to fuck off, but they actually were into the idea!

So what we’ve got down below is the result of that conversation at Philadelphia’s Queen and Rook Game Cafe. As you’ll see, we got to playing a color based game called Hues & Cues (because of their color-based albums, obviously) and a ridiculous dexterity game called The Fuzzies. The focus remains on their answers, but it was a blast to hang out, sit down, and chat over a board game or two.

Stone will be available next Friday, September 15 via Abraxan Hymns, but you can preorder it right now. They’re also scheduled to go on a big ass tour, which you can also check out below.
