UK metalcore kingpins Architects have announced their tenth studio album, The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit, for an October 21 release via Epitaph and shared the latest single, “tear gas.”
According to NME, The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit was produced by Architects members Dan Searle and Josh Middleton, with additional contributions from vocalist Sam Carter at Deacon’s Middle Farm Studios and Electric Studios. It is their first record post-COVID lockdown, which allowed the band to be in the same room together versus the remote recording of their last album, For Those That Wish to Exist. Carter says that created a better vibe throughout the recording process.
“This one feels more live, more exciting and more fun—it has that energy. We wanted it to be a lot more industrial and electronic.”
The record’s press release notes that the album will feature electronic and industrial influences to underscore “the band’s post-rock influences as well as now familiar fist pumping anthems such as ‘when we were young,’ and new single ‘tear gas.’”
In an interview with NME last month, Carter shared the band’s philosophy about writing and recording.
“It’s always important to change and to challenge yourselves as musicians. We’re very proud of the legacy of this band but we don’t want to just look back and think ‘OK that was cool’. We’ve always got to try and reach for bigger, bolder, more excitement. I’m always eyes on the next prize. How can we be better? How can we make the records more exciting? Where should we take the sound of the band? We are always looking for that Eureka moment.
“We will continue to push ourselves in that way, continue trying to reach new people and show people that we don’t take any of it for granted.”
You can pre-order the album here. Architects will undertake an extensive US and UK tour in the fall. Tickets are available for all dates.
