Your wings are clipped now….
and tortured lovers make good pets
In Wim Wenders’ brilliant film Wings of Desire, the notion of falling from grace is profoundly explored through the celestial beings who yearn to experience human existence. These angels, perched above Berlin, observe life’s beauty and sorrow with detached compassion. One angel, Damiel, wishes to enter the realm of the living; to embrace the imperfections and visceral experiences of humanity.
This act of falling from grace is not a descent into sin, but a sacred leap into the fullness of life: a reminder that a state of divine purity is also found in the messy, chaotic, and deeply felt moments of human experience. The fall, therefore, is a move from abstract spirituality to tangible, vibrant existence, where love, pain, and joy intermingle in the grand dance of being.
This concept inspired the new dark club track Fall From Grace from Joyfriend, the nom de guerre of Los Angeles Based Artist Joy DaMert. With their wild blend of electronic dance beats, this tune laments leaving celestial comfort for earthly delights, set against synth arpeggios and percussion that nod to Einstürzende Neubauten. Think early Ministry meets Soft Cell and Dead Or Alive, with a dash of underground queer rave, punk, and goth vibes. And let’s be real, Joyfriend says they’d rather have angels on their knees than in the heavens—talk about a grounded perspective!
Joyfriend is ready to drop their debut EP this summer, and they’re hitting the road for six sordid weeks starting June 21, 2024, with the unforgettable Jeff In Leather. Get ready for a tour packed with energy and some seriously tenacious acts like LLora, Nux Voxima, Semantix, Bustié, Zen Hander, and Healing.
