The Used Release New Single, Announce Album

Posted on 20/02/2023 By
The Used

The Used just announced their 10th studio album, Toxic Positivity, and now they’ve unveiled a new single from the forthcoming record, “People Are Vomit.”

The band’s new album will be out May 19 via Big Noise, and from what we can tell from this track, the album is going to continue the band’s legacy of frustration with the human race.

“People Are Vomit” is described in a press release as:

“a straightforward, in-your-face explosion of Bert McCracken’s iconic angst-ridden vexation and snarling pop energy that doesn’t let up. It is everything fans have come to expect from The Used over the last 20-plus years at the forefront of the scene, solidifying their enduring legacy.”

“We think this song is fun and cute,” says vocalist Bert McCracken. “We hope you love it too.”

The Used first formed in 2000, and have since channeled themes from rock, emo, metal, and hardcore into one singular sound on their previous nine records. Their ninth album Heartwork (Deluxe), came out in 2021 via Big Noise and is an extended version of their 2020 album Heartwork.

The song talks of our current American dystopia where folks are divided and discouraged.

“People Are Vomit” Lyrics

I don’t wanna live in this American Wasteland
United we fall and divided where we stand
Crowds of people fall to their knees
Pledging their allegiance to this disease
Violence is sometimes necessary
Dying in our sleep from the American dream

This future’s fucked before it got started
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you need?
This world’s disgusting people are vomit
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you need?

I can show you fear in a handful of dust now
Tell me to pick a side but I’m not sure I know how
Crowds of people fall to their knees
Pledging their allegiance to this disease
Violence is sometimes necessary
Dying in our sleep from the American dream

This future’s fucked before it got started
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you need?
This world’s disgusting people are vomit
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you need?

I pledge allegiance to myself
I pledge allegiance to no one else
I pledge allegiance to myself
I pledge allegiance to no one else

This future’s fucked before it got started
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you need?
This world’s disgusting people are vomit
Is this what you wanted?
Is this what you need?
