The new single, BLOT OUT THE SUN featuring SPANKTHENUN, Moris Blak, Jay Ruin and John Mirland — this one is a banger. We have been getting great feedback from the DJs online and in the clubs regarding the Moris Blak version, BLAK OUT THE SUN.
This is the first single from the upcoming new SPANKTHENUN album The Bunker Tapes VOL III, coming summer of 2023. Release date 11/25 – Pre-order is available now on Bandcamp — https://spankthenun.bandcamp.com/album/blot-out-the-sun-single
The new single from SPANKTHENUN takes the next step of the journey in The Bunker Tapes series. The new album promises to take the listener to the next logical evolutionary stage of the music contained within this series of work. BLOT OUT THE SUN picks up where OFF BEATINGS left off. While the previous work enlisted the legendary talents of Claus Larsen (Leaether Strip and Klutae) bringing his firey vocals and sense of impending doom to the SPANKTHENUN track, the new track enlists the talents of mega talented up start Moris Blak… bringing the venom and industrial bass like only he can do. The BLAK OUT THE SUN version of the track was designed as a high energy infectious track for the dance floor with DJs in mind. This track also taps into some of the nostalgia of the 80s while keeping it modern and in your face. This one will have you moving and listening on repeat.
The lyrics focus on the irony and juxtaposition of how society wants to complain on one hand about government and the powers that be, while on the other hand they really just want follow the narrative they are force fed through social platforms and TV. We want to be heard, but we are the herd. We want to shout and we want people to listen, but we also want to follow the crowd and hide in the shadows.
The cover art created by SPANKTHENUN represents a possible near future where things have gone horribly wrong and out of control. A dystopian scifi aesthetic for sure. Over the series of THE BUNKER TAPES albums, the art has consistently involved an image featuring a skull, the first images represented finding an old skull buried, long lost and recently rediscovered, to a modern vision of a skull with a giant industrial gear, and now to a future where the skull is found in everything, representing death and rebirth into the unknown.
