The Hu and Alice in Chain’s William DuVall Join Forces in “This Is Mongol (Warrior Souls)”

A new version of The Hu‘s 2022 single “This Is Mongol” has been released with Alice in Chains vocalist William DuVall lending his talents to the new track. Now equipped with an English-language chorus and a new music video to boot, the song also features some footage of the upcoming film The Retaliators, which features both The Hu and the music video’s director, Michael Lombardi.

Temka, The Hu’s tovshuur player, said it was an exciting proposition to work with DuVall for this version of the track, nothing that his particular singing style works well with their traditional throat singing techniques.

“We are so excited to be performing our single ‘This is Mongol (Warrior Souls)’ with William DuVall. He’s not only an amazing vocalist but also has unique rhythm and technique to his performance, and his style matches our energy and our throat singing. The song is about the warrior souls that are within us, and its purpose is to inspire you and awaken your soul. We hope everyone enjoys this piece of art.”

Similarly, DuVall said the experience was an “exciting and fulfilling challenge” since it had to fit in with The Hu’s very particular style.

“It was such an exciting and fulfilling challenge to write and produce something that remained true to The Hu’s sensibilities while also resonating with my own. ‘Warrior Souls’ is a testament to the fact that, no matter where we come from, in the end, we all want the same things-to prosper in our own time despite the odds arrayed against us, making previous generations proud and leaving a worthy legacy for the future. I’m honored by this collaboration and very proud of the result.”

As of right now, The Hu are taking some time off from touring, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be able to catch ’em live this year. Starting this June, the band will be hitting up seven different festival dates throughout the summer. You can check which dates and festivals below the video.
