“The Alchemist”
(taken from a forthcoming split release “An alchemical gathering” : dark ambient soundscapes inspired by the end of the world)
The end of the world is a popular topic in music. Every artist seems to have their own idea of what it will sound like. For Michael Plater, it’s dark ambient soundscapes inspired by Australia’s dark history and the myths, folklore, and legends of his adopted home in Cornwall. His latest release, “An Alchemical Gathering,” is a split cassette offering with Essex experimental outfit Enclosed & Silent Order. A new solo album, “Ghost Music,” will follow later this year. Inspired by Australia’s dark history and the myths, folklore, and legends of his adopted home in Cornwall, the album is a collaboration with U.K musicians John Hannon (Liberez, Woe) and Stafford Glover (The Doomed Bird of Providence, Enclosed & Silent Order, Extreme Noise Terror).

“I have been fascinated with the dark elements of history in Australia. It is so rich in myths and legends. It’s a country of dark, brooding landscapes and that’s reflected in music. I’ve been obsessed with the idea of The Dreamtime stories and the Yolngu mythology. I love the idea of the Dreamtime and the Yolngu mythology.”
