Synth punk, post-rock, math rock… there are multiple ways that outlets have tried to categorize what New York-based duo Bangladeafy is, but it’s probably best if we just drop all the labels and just listen to their latest release, a Heavenview remix of “Whisper Rat”.
Originally featured on the band’s newest album Vulture, which came out on June 21 via Nefarious Industries, this version takes a previously full sounding track and blasts it through blown out speakers. Featuring more aggressive rhythms and a more frenetic feeling sound, this new version has a dirty attack not seen in the original.
All that extra rhythm and explosivity in the remix is by design. That’s because Heavenview, the person that remixed the track in the first place, is actually Emmett Ceglia, a metal and hardcore drummer whose credits include work with World Peace, Backslider, Thin, Husbandry, and Mutilation Rites.
As for Bangladeafy itself, they’ traditionally have a punky-sound’re comprised of John Ehlers on vocals, synths, and samplers and Atif Haq on drums. With their 2016 release Narcopaloma once described by Vice’s Noisey as “Lightning Bolt and the Melvins eating big, greedy spoonfuls of each other’s candy-colored vomit,” these guys have a unique sound that’s worth checking out.
You can pick up Vulture wherever you get your music these days, be it from their Bandcamp page or on whichever digital streaming platform you prefer.
