Jerry Cantrell: Alice In Chains Has “Creative Irons in the Fire” and I Want Blood is His “Best Work”

Even though he’s currently in the middle of promoting his new solo effort I Want Blood, Jerry Cantrell hasn’t forgotten about Alice in Chains. Sure, it’s been six years since they released Rainier Fog, but that doesn’t mean things are completely devoid of action within the band. They’ve recently been on tour and released some sick anniversary versions of Jar of Flies and Dirt.
In fact, things are apparently progressing to a point that there may be another album in the cards sometime soon. During an interview with Loudwire, Cantrell revealed that the band was actively working on stuff, including what he described as “non-album related” things.
“There’s a couple of things that we’re working on, like non-album related. We’re going to jump on a call [soon], we’ve got a few creative irons in the fire, but I’m at the very beginning of this cycle that I’ve committed to so I pretty much kind of keep my focus on this.”
So I wouldn’t necessarily hold out hope for a new Alice in Chains album any time in the very near future, but it’s exciting to think that there’s going to be a follow up to Rainier Fog. We’re just gonna have to wait for that.
As for his solo efforts and I Want Blood, he said he was excited for the new album’s impending release during an interview with Las Vegas radio station KOMP 92.3. During that chat, he explained that each album he completes manages to capture how he’s feeling at that moment and that this new slate of songs will do exactly that.
“Yeah, it’s a good piece of work. Any artist is gonna be excited about their new record because it’s a new record and it takes a lot of effort and it takes a lot of time to put that together. And if you’re gonna release it, it obviously meets the level that you wanted it to hit and hopefully maybe it even goes a little bit further than that. And so I’ve been able to, luckily, not really be disappointed but pleasantly surprised of pretty much every record I’ve done in my career, and that’s a good feeling.
“So when you bring home a record and then you can kind of take a step back and take a look at it, it’s, like, ‘Oh, man. That is a serious piece of work there.’ And I don’t think I could have done any better. It’s the absolute best work I could have done in that period of time. So that’s always a good feeling.”
I Want Blood will be available on October 18 via Double J Music, but you can preorder your copy today.
