Pantera‘s first U.S. show in 22 years took place May 6 in Florida, and dummer Charlie Benante captured footage of the historic night.
The show happened at the Thunder Beach Motorcycle Rally in Panama City, and it was their first U.S. show since July 25, 2001. That show was at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington while the band was on their Extreme Steel tour.
The set from their first show back included rare cuts like “Suicide Note Pt. II” from their 1996 album The Great Southern Trendkill.
In an interview with YouTube show THAT Rocks!, Benante says about joining up with the band:
“People had their preconceived notions of what they were gonna think: ‘Oh, I don’t dig this without Vinnie and Dime.’ And of course… What do you think? We don’t know that Vinnie and Dime are not with us anymore? But when we start playing the songs, and you just see the faces in the crowd, all that shit goes out the window, the negative stuff that has been said.
“Man, that’s all I ever wanted to do, is just come and do this and make people hear these songs again,” he adds.. “And that’s what it’s all about, really. It’s about the music.”
This footage is just a taste of what’s to come, and U.S. fans who were skeptical about the revised lineup can now put those fears to rest.
